This magazine was created and designed for my senior project. I was inspired by a Graphic Communication Magazine Design course and an Ethnic Studies course about the Filipino-American Experience that I had both previously taken. I wanted to challenge myself by combining and applying concepts I learned in these courses into a 26-page magazine.
Sampaguita features a compilation of culture, art, and fashion in the Filipinx community. Because Filipinx culture and heritage is so vastly unique, this magazine aims to celebrate diversity and inspire the next generation of Filipinx creatives and artists.
DESIGN CONCEPTS
Sampaguita Magazine is named after the national flower of the Philippines and the logo's typeface was chosen because it is reminiscent of logos and advertisements in the Philippines. The overall aesthetic relies on colorful visuals and design concepts that look like a mix of D.I.Y., scrapbooks, and contemporary design.
